The Whigs releasing live album: Watch them cover David Bowie in Madison
Athens, Georgia is one of our favorite music cities and The Whigs keep the mystique intact with word of a new live album.
"Big News! Our 6th album 'Live In Little Five' is available for pre-order today and will be officially released via New West Records November 11th, 2016! It is the band's FIRST live album and was recorded in Atlanta's Little Five Points last December."
The Whigs got their start fourteen years ago in Athens and have played in town numerous times. Straight ahead rock 'n' roll using a three-piece attack with a Replacements-like roughness and a little bit of rootsy country soul. In my quest to find rare performances in Madison music clubs after the witching hour of midnight, I bring you a nugget from The Whigs at the Frequency. A decent cover of David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel." By the way, this was before he passed away. Yet, another Communion show. The stage lighting effects were pretty sub par reeking havoc with my video camera, but you get the jist.
No Madison or Milwaukee dates for the Whigs, although there were several acoustic solo shows by guitarist Parker Gispert at Mile of Music in Appleton a couple of weeks back. Always a fun band live. The closest Whigs show is at Codfish Hollow Barnstormers in Maquoketa, Iowa this weekend.
