Getting vaccinated? Watch a Ramones parody of "I Wanna Be Sedated" from The Drag State
There is light at the end of the tunnel for the pandemic. Vaccine is becoming plentiful and indie rockers, The Drag State, are having some fun with the situation. Vocalist Trevor Lettman and guitarist Rob Wales tapped into their Minneapolis hometown roots looking for a way to help spread the word of the virus antidotes.
Dolly Parton may have gotten her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine singing a parody of Jolene, while this Twin Cities duo had a little bit heavier idea in mind. Growing up on The Replacements, Soul Asylum, and Hüsker Dü what better band than the Ramones to project the power of “Getting Vaccinated.”
We won’t hold it against Trevor if he’s a Vikings fan, since he’s wearing a First Avenue t-shirt while singing in front of a Hüsker Dü poster from his home studio. Rob lays down some sparse lead guitar and a Canadian mystery guest known as Brittlestar makes a cameo appearance sporting a rather extensive guitar collection.
The jabs at the anti-mask Trumpster contingent and Mitch McConnell make this a parody worth watching. The agony of the past year comes through for musicians who have not been able to play in-person live shows.
Sung to the tune of “I Wanna Be Sedated”
We can’t wait to see live shows again, man…
That can’t be overstated.
So get us out of quarantine and get us on the stage
When everyone is vaccinated, we can go and play
I can’t believe those morons made this last 300 days
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!
I just scheduled my first shot and will be fully vaccinated by the end of May. Get yours as soon as possible and look for Rock of the Arts at a nearby club show somewhere in downtown Madison, soon! Are you listening Mickey’s Tavern, High Noon Saloon, Majestic Theatre, The Sylvee, Barrymore Theatre, Crystal Corner Bar and any other venue I left out across the state?
